Domtar

Domtar is a leading North American forest products company with deep roots dating back more than two centuries. The company’s history traces to 1820 with the founding of the William Price Company in Quebec, Canada, originally exporting lumber to Great Britain. Over time, that legacy evolved through strategic growth and industry leadership, including the formation of Abitibi-Price and later Resolute Forest Products.

Domtar’s parallel origins began in 1848 with Burt, Boulton Holding Company Ltd., which grew into Dominion Tar and Chemical Company and ultimately became Domtar Inc. By the late 20th century, Domtar had established itself as one of Canada’s largest and most diversified forest products companies, with a strong focus on pulp, paper, packaging, and specialty products.

Through decades of mergers, acquisitions, and innovation, Domtar and Resolute Forest Products emerged as industry leaders. In 2021, both companies were acquired by Paper Excellence Group, creating one of the most significant forest products organizations in North America. In October 2024, Paper Excellence rebranded under the Domtar name, integrating Domtar Corporation, Resolute Forest Products, and the legacy Paper Excellence business into one unified company.

Today, Domtar is a leading manufacturer of pulp, paper, packaging, and wood products, including thermal point-of-sale receipt paper following its 2024 acquisition of Iconex Paper’s North American POS business. Domtar remains committed to innovation, sustainability, and supporting the communities where it operates.
